Possible Causes
Insufficient pellet feed to fire pot, Failed or weak igniter, Combustion fan not running at startup, Wet or poor-quality pellets
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill. Allow any unburned pellets to cool before handling.
Steps:
- Clean fire pot: Remove grates and drip tray. Empty the fire pot of ash and unburned pellets. Ensure the igniter opening is clear.
- Check pellets: Inspect pellets in the hopper. Discard any that are swollen, crumbly, or damp. Refill with fresh, dry hardwood pellets approved by Napoleon.
- Verify auger feed: With the grill empty and cool, start a cycle and observe whether pellets drop into the fire pot. If not, investigate the auger motor and feed system.
- Confirm igniter operation: During startup, look through the fire pot to see if the igniter glows red within a few minutes. If it does not, test and replace the igniter as needed.
- Check fan: Listen for the combustion fan at startup. If silent, diagnose the fan circuit.
Tip: After clearing a flame-out, always start with a clean fire pot to prevent overfilling and smoke-back.
