Possible Causes
Combustion fan not reaching required speed, Fan blades obstructed by debris, Failed fan motor, Faulty fan tachometer feedback to control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and let it cool before working near the fan.
Steps:
- Inspect fan: Access the combustion fan and check for grease, ash, or foreign objects blocking the blades. Clean thoroughly.
- Spin test: Rotate the fan by hand. It should spin freely. Any grinding or stiffness indicates bearing issues; replace the fan.
- Check wiring and feedback lead: Some Napoleon fans include a feedback (tach) wire. Ensure all fan wires are intact and firmly connected to the control board.
- Operational check: Reassemble, plug in, and start the grill. Listen for the fan ramping up. If the FAN error returns and the fan does not spin, replace the fan motor assembly.
