Grill temperature overshoots setpoint by more than 50°F and fluctuates widely

Safety first: Use heat-resistant gloves when working inside a hot grill.

Steps:

• Clean RTD probe: Gently wipe the probe with a non-abrasive pad to remove grease and soot. Do not bend the probe.
• Check mounting: Ensure the probe is firmly attached to the cook chamber wall and not moving.
• Wind management: Position the grill so the exhaust is downwind and shield the unit from strong crosswinds.
• Lid discipline: Avoid frequent lid opening, which can cause large swings.

If instability persists, the control board may require firmware update or replacement.
