Possible Causes

Damaged RTD temperature sensor wire, Disconnected RTD probe connector at control board, Failed RTD temperature probe, Corroded or loose spade connectors on RTD harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the grill OFF, unplug it from power, and allow it to cool completely before opening any panels.

  • Access the RTD probe: Locate the temperature probe inside the cook chamber (usually a small metal rod on the side wall). Trace its wire through the back of the grill to the control board.
  • Check connections: Remove the control panel or rear access panel. Inspect the RTD sensor plug where it connects to the main control board. Reseat the connector firmly and ensure there is no corrosion or burnt plastic.
  • Inspect the wire harness: Look for cuts, melted insulation, or pinch points along the RTD cable. Repair minor insulation damage with high‑temp electrical tape; replace the harness if conductors are exposed or broken.
  • Test continuity (if you have a meter): With the grill unplugged, disconnect the RTD from the board and measure resistance across the two RTD leads. A typical pellet grill RTD will read a few hundred to a few thousand ohms at room temperature. An infinite (OL) reading indicates an open circuit and the probe must be replaced.
  • Replace the RTD probe if faulty: Remove the mounting screw(s) holding the probe to the cook chamber, pull the wire through the wall grommet, and route the new Nexgrill RTD probe harness the same way. Secure with the original hardware and reconnect to the control board.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall panels, plug the grill back in, and power on. If Er1 clears and the temperature reads normally, run a low‑temperature test cook to confirm stable operation.
