Possible Causes
Pellet jam in auger tube, Swollen or wet pellets in hopper, Foreign object in hopper or auger, Failed auger motor or stripped auger motor coupler
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill. Ensure there are no hot embers in the fire pot before working near the auger.
- Empty the hopper: Scoop or vacuum out all pellets from the hopper. Check for clumps of swollen pellets or foreign objects (screws, staples, etc.).
- Clear the auger tube: Remove the access panel to the auger assembly. Disconnect the auger motor from the auger shaft (usually a set screw or pin). Try to manually rotate and pull the auger out of the tube. If it is stuck, gently tap the auger shaft with a rubber mallet while pulling.
- Clean the auger and tube: Remove all compacted pellets, sawdust, and debris from the auger flights and inside the tube. Lightly sand any rust spots and wipe clean. Do not lubricate with oil; if needed, use a very light food‑safe dry lubricant.
- Inspect auger motor and coupler: Check the motor shaft and coupler for rounding or stripping. If the motor hums but does not turn under load, it may be weak or failing and should be replaced.
- Reassemble: Reinstall the auger into the tube, reconnect the motor and coupler, and secure all fasteners. Reinstall the access panel.
- Test feed: Add a small amount of fresh, dry pellets to the hopper. Plug in the grill and start a prime or feed cycle. Confirm that the auger turns smoothly and Er5 does not reappear.
