Possible Causes

RTD probe wires shorted together, Moisture inside RTD probe or connector, Melted RTD cable insulation from contact with hot surfaces, Failed RTD temperature probe

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power and let the grill cool completely.

  • Inspect the RTD probe cable from the cook chamber to the controller. Look for melted insulation where the cable may have touched the barrel or firebox.
  • Check that the RTD cable is not pinched under the lid or side shelf brackets.
  • Open the controller access panel and unplug the RTD connector. Inspect for moisture, rust, or carbon buildup. Dry the connector thoroughly and clean with electrical contact cleaner if available.
  • With the RTD unplugged, power the grill briefly. If ERR2 changes or clears, the RTD is likely shorted and should be replaced.
  • Install a new OEM RTD temperature probe, route the cable away from hot surfaces, and secure it with high‑temp cable ties.

Warning: Never operate the grill with a known shorted temperature probe; this can cause uncontrolled overheating.
