Possible Causes
Burned out igniter rod, Loose igniter wiring at control board, Failed igniter fuse on control board, Damaged igniter ceramic housing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure the firepot and cook chamber are cool.
- Remove the cooking grates and heat baffle to access the firepot. Look for the igniter tip protruding into the firepot.
- Inspect the igniter for cracks, missing tip, or heavy ash buildup. Clean ash from the firepot.
- Access the controller compartment and locate the igniter wires. Ensure the connector is fully seated on the control board and that no wires are burned or broken.
- If your model has an inline fuse for the igniter circuit, check and replace it if blown.
- If the igniter does not glow red during startup after reconnecting, replace the igniter (hot rod) assembly with an OEM Oklahoma Joe’s part.
- Reassemble the firepot area, making sure the igniter is centered and not touching the metal of the pot.
Warning: Do not touch the igniter when powered; it becomes extremely hot and can cause burns.
