Possible Causes
Pellet jam in auger tube, Swollen or wet pellets in hopper, Foreign object in auger, Failing auger motor drawing excessive current
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill. Allow it to cool completely before working near the firepot or auger.
- Empty the pellet hopper completely. Scoop out pellets and vacuum remaining dust.
- Check for clumped or swollen pellets; discard any that are soft or crumbly.
- Remove the access panel to the auger motor. Disconnect the motor from the auger shaft (usually a set screw or pin).
- Try to spin the auger shaft by hand from the firepot side (with grates and baffle removed). If it is stuck, you have a pellet jam.
- Use a wooden dowel or similar tool to gently break up and push out jammed pellets from the auger tube. Do not use metal tools that can damage the tube.
- Once the auger spins freely, reconnect the auger motor and test. If ERR4 returns and the auger is free, replace the auger motor.
Warning: Never put your fingers near the auger flighting while the grill is plugged in; the motor can start unexpectedly.
