Possible Causes

Grease fire in cook chamber, Excessive pellet feed due to stuck auger relay, RTD probe mispositioned near firebox, Blocked exhaust or chimney cap closed

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If you see flames or heavy smoke, turn the controller to OFF, unplug the grill, and keep the lid closed to smother flames. Do not use water on a grease fire.

  • After the grill cools completely, remove grates and heat baffle. Inspect for signs of a grease fire (heavy soot, burned grease).
  • Clean the drip tray, grease channels, and bottom of the cook chamber thoroughly to remove built‑up grease.
  • Verify the chimney cap and exhaust vents are open and not blocked by foil or debris.
  • Check that the RTD temperature probe is mounted in its correct location and not bent toward the firebox or directly above the firepot.
  • Power the grill back on and monitor startup. If the temperature overshoots dramatically or pellets continue feeding excessively, the control board or auger relay may be faulty and require replacement.

Warning: Persistent overheat faults after cleaning and inspection should be evaluated by a qualified technician to rule out control board failure.
