Possible Causes
Corrupted controller firmware, Internal memory failure, Power surge damage, Moisture intrusion into control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing the controller.
- Step 1 – Hard reset: Turn the dial to OFF. Unplug the grill for at least 5 minutes to fully discharge the controller. Plug back in and attempt to start on Smoke.
- Step 2 – Inspect controller housing: Check for signs of water ingress, condensation, or grease inside the controller cavity. Dry thoroughly if moisture is present.
- Step 3 – Check wiring harness: Ensure all connectors are firmly seated and no pins are bent or corroded.
- Step 4 – Replace controller: If Er6 persists after reset and inspection, the main control board is likely defective and should be replaced with a Pit Boss–compatible replacement.
