Possible Causes
Power was interrupted during last cook, Controller not properly reset after outage, Faulty main control board, Loose power or harness connections
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the grill is on a properly grounded outlet. Do not work on wiring while the unit is plugged in.
- Step 1 – Power cycle correctly: Turn the temperature dial to OFF. Unplug the grill for at least 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn the dial to Smoke or Prime (depending on model). Wait to see if ErP clears.
- Step 2 – Check for stuck dial or buttons: Verify the temperature knob turns smoothly and is not stuck between detents. On digital models, ensure no buttons are jammed.
- Step 3 – Inspect power cord and outlet: Check for damaged insulation, burn marks, or loose plug. Test the outlet with another appliance to confirm stable power.
- Step 4 – Inspect internal harness: With the grill unplugged, remove the controller. Check that all harness connectors are fully seated on the control board and that no wires are pinched or melted.
- Step 5 – Replace controller if needed: If ErP persists after a proper reset and wiring inspection, replace the main control board with a Pit Boss–compatible controller.
