Possible Causes
Grease fire in cook chamber, Excessive pellet feed due to stuck auger relay, Faulty RTD probe reading low, Control board output stuck on high
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you suspect a grease fire, keep the lid closed, unplug the grill, and use a Class B or K fire extinguisher if needed. Do not open the lid until flames subside.
- Step 1 – Allow full cool-down: Wait until the grill is completely cool before inspecting.
- Step 2 – Deep clean grease system: Remove grates, drip tray, and heat baffle. Scrape and clean all grease from the drip tray, barrel, and grease channel. Ensure the grease drain and bucket are clear.
- Step 3 – Inspect RTD probe: Clean heavy soot from the RTD temperature probe. Replace the RTD temperature probe if it is bent, cracked, or heavily corroded.
- Step 4 – Check auger control: During a test run on low temperature, observe pellet feed. If the auger runs continuously even when temperature is above setpoint, the main control board may have a stuck relay and should be replaced.
- Step 5 – Avoid high-grease cooks without cleaning: After repair, clean more frequently when cooking fatty meats to prevent recurrence.
