Possible Causes
Burned-out hot rod igniter, Loose igniter connection at controller, Blown igniter fuse, Faulty igniter driver on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and ensure the firepot is cool before accessing the igniter.
- Step 1 – Visual check: Remove internal components to expose the firepot. Inspect the igniter for cracks, missing tip, or heavy corrosion.
- Step 2 – Check wiring: Trace igniter wires to the controller. Ensure connectors are tight and not burned.
- Step 3 – Resistance test: Measure resistance across igniter leads. Replace the hot rod igniter if open or out of spec.
- Step 4 – Temporary manual light (for testing only): You can light pellets manually with a food-safe fire starter while leaving the igniter disconnected to confirm the rest of the system works. Do this only with the lid open and follow all fire safety precautions.
- Step 5 – Replace controller if needed: If a new igniter does not heat and wiring is good, replace the main control board.
