Possible Causes
Insufficient pellet feed, Wet or low-quality pellets, Failed hot rod igniter, Combustion fan not running at startup
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the grill OFF and unplug before cleaning or accessing internal parts.
- Step 1 – Verify pellets: Ensure hopper is filled with dry, high-quality hardwood pellets. Replace any pellets that are swollen, crumbly, or discolored.
- Step 2 – Clean firepot: Remove grates, drip tray, and heat baffle. Vacuum all ash from the firepot and surrounding area. A clogged firepot can smother the flame.
- Step 3 – Check igniter operation: Start the grill on Smoke with the firepot empty. After 3–5 minutes, carefully feel near the firepot (without touching the igniter) for heat. If there is no heat, the hot rod igniter is likely failed and should be replaced.
- Step 4 – Confirm fan and auger operation: During startup, listen for the combustion fan and watch for pellets dropping into the firepot. If either is not operating, troubleshoot the combustion fan motor or auger motor.
- Step 5 – Restart after correction: After repairs and cleaning, perform a proper startup and monitor temperature rise. LEr should not return if ignition and airflow are restored.
