Possible Causes
P-setting too low for ambient temperature, Excessive pellet feed at idle, Poor airflow causing heat buildup, Incorrect controller calibration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: P-codes on Pit Boss controllers are not errors but smoke-program settings that adjust auger off-time.
- Step 1 – Understand P-setting: Lower P numbers (P1–P2) feed more pellets and can run hotter. Higher P numbers (P5–P7) feed fewer pellets and can run cooler with more smoke.
- Step 2 – Adjust P-setting: In hot weather, increase the P-setting (e.g., from P1 to P4) to reduce pellet feed during idle and prevent overheating.
- Step 3 – Monitor temperature: After adjustment, run the grill for 20–30 minutes and observe stability. Fine-tune P-setting as needed.
