Possible Causes
Damaged meat probe cable, Probe tip contamination or moisture, Loose probe jack connection, Faulty probe input on controller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not pinch probe wires in the lid; avoid contact with open flame.
- Step 1 – Compare readings: Place the Pit Boss meat probe and a known-good thermometer in ice water and boiling water to compare readings.
- Step 2 – Inspect probe and cable: Look for kinks, cuts, or melted insulation. Replace the meat probe if damaged or inaccurate.
- Step 3 – Check probe jack: Ensure the probe plug seats fully in the controller jack. Clean contacts if necessary.
- Step 4 – Replace controller if needed: If multiple new probes read incorrectly, the main control board probe circuit may be faulty.
