Possible Causes

Dirty or blocked pellet level sensor, Disconnected sensor wiring, Failed optical or mechanical level switch, Control board sensor input fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill before working inside the hopper or control area.

  • Locate pellet level sensor: On Rösle models with this feature, the sensor is typically mounted on the side of the hopper or near the auger intake.
  • Clean sensor: Wipe away pellet dust and debris from the sensor lens or mechanical arm. Use a dry cloth; avoid solvents that could damage plastic parts.
  • Check wiring: Trace the sensor wires to the control board and ensure the connector is secure and undamaged.
  • Test with full hopper: Fill the hopper above the sensor level and restart the grill. If ER16 clears, monitor for recurrence.
  • Bypass or replace sensor: If the sensor continues to report an error, replace it with a Rösle-compatible pellet level sensor. Do not permanently bypass safety sensors without manufacturer guidance.
