Possible Causes

Failed hot rod igniter, Loose or burned igniter wiring at control board, Faulty ignition circuit on main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill from mains power and allow it to cool completely before opening any panels. Never work on a hot firepot.

  • Check pellet level and firepot: Ensure the hopper has dry hardwood pellets and the firepot is not overfilled with ash. Vacuum out ash and old pellets.
  • Inspect the igniter rod: Remove the grates, drip tray, and heat diffuser to access the firepot. Locate the igniter rod in the side of the firepot. Look for cracks, heavy corrosion, or a burned-off tip.
  • Test for heat: With components reinstalled but firepot visible, plug in the grill, start an ignition cycle, and watch from a safe distance. Within 3–5 minutes the igniter tip should glow red. If it stays dark, power off and unplug.
  • Check wiring: Remove the side or rear service panel to access the igniter harness where it connects to the Rösle control board. Ensure the connector is fully seated and wires are not pinched or burned.
  • Replace igniter rod if faulty: Unplug the igniter harness, remove the mounting screw(s) holding the igniter in the firepot tube, and slide the old igniter out. Install a compatible Rösle hot rod igniter, route the leads away from hot surfaces, and reconnect to the board.
  • Test operation: Reassemble the grill, plug it in, and run a startup. Confirm the igniter glows and pellets ignite within a few minutes.

If the new igniter does not heat, the ignition circuit on the control board may be defective and the board should be replaced by a qualified technician.
