Possible Causes

Pellet jam in auger tube, Swollen or wet pellets in hopper, Failed auger motor, Sheared auger shear pin or stripped auger coupler

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill and let it cool completely. Do not put hands near the auger while the unit is plugged in.

  • Empty hopper: Scoop out pellets from the Rösle hopper into a dry container. Check for sawdust buildup or signs of moisture.
  • Clear visible jams: Remove the hopper guard (if fitted) and vacuum out pellet dust. Use a wooden dowel to gently stir and free pellets near the auger intake.
  • Access auger assembly: Remove the rear or side service panel to expose the auger motor and auger shaft. Disconnect the auger motor from the control board.
  • Check auger rotation by hand: Remove the motor mounting screws and slide the motor off the auger shaft. Try turning the auger by hand with pliers. If it will not turn, the auger tube is jammed.
  • Clear auger tube: Remove the screws securing the auger housing to the firebox. Slide the auger out and scrape off compacted pellets and tar. Clean the tube thoroughly and sand any rust spots lightly.
  • Inspect motor and coupler: Check the auger motor shaft, coupler, and any shear pin for damage. Replace the auger motor or coupler if worn or stripped.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the auger, motor, and panels. Refill with fresh, dry pellets only. Plug in and start the grill to confirm the auger turns smoothly.
