Possible Causes
Swollen or wet pellets compacted in auger tube, Foreign object in hopper or auger tube, Heavy sawdust buildup restricting movement
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and allow it to cool. Wear gloves; auger edges can be sharp.
Steps to clear auger jam:
- Empty hopper: Scoop or vacuum all pellets from the hopper to expose the auger inlet.
- Attempt manual rotation: From the hopper side, try to rotate the auger with pliers. If it will not move, a jam is present.
- Remove auger motor: Access the auger motor from the side or rear, remove mounting bolts, and slide the motor off the auger shaft.
- Extract auger: Pull the auger out from the hopper side. You may need to twist and pull firmly. Remove all compacted pellets, sawdust, and debris from the auger tube.
- Clean and dry: Clean the auger flights and tube thoroughly. Ensure everything is dry before reassembly to prevent future swelling.
- Reassemble: Reinsert the auger, reinstall the motor, and tighten the coupling or set screw. Refill with fresh, dry pellets and test feed.
Tip: Store pellets in a dry, sealed container to minimize moisture absorption and reduce auger jams.
