Possible Causes
RTD probe out of calibration, RTD not positioned correctly in cook chamber, Heavy buildup on RTD affecting response
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the grill to cool before touching the RTD or installing thermometers.
Steps to verify and correct temperature accuracy:
- Cross-check with external thermometer: Place a reliable oven/grill thermometer at grate level and compare readings at several setpoints (e.g., 225°F, 350°F).
- Clean RTD: Gently clean the RTD probe to remove grease and carbon, which can insulate it and slow response.
- Check RTD placement: Ensure the RTD is mounted in the factory location and not bent away from the main airflow path or touching metal surfaces.
- Controller calibration (if available): Some Recteq models allow offset adjustment. Apply a small offset to match the average difference observed with your external thermometer.
- Replace RTD if needed: If readings remain inconsistent or erratic, replace the RTD probe.
Note: Temperature can vary across the grate; compare readings near the RTD location for best correlation.
