Controller display shows ER-2 and grill will not heat or shows incorrect temperature.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.

How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and let it cool completely before inspection.
Steps to troubleshoot ER-2:
- Visual inspection: Locate the RTD probe inside the cook chamber. Check for heavy grease buildup, physical damage, or signs of moisture intrusion (rust, discoloration).
- Check cable routing: Follow the RTD cable from the probe to the controller. Look for spots where the cable may be pinched under panels or rubbed against sharp metal, exposing bare wires that could touch each other or the chassis.
- Inspect connector: Disconnect the RTD from the controller and inspect the plug. Ensure the two pins are not bent and that no strands of wire are bridging the terminals.
- Meter test: With the RTD unplugged, measure resistance between each RTD lead and the metal body of the probe. There should be no continuity (open). If you read near-zero ohms between the leads or to ground, the probe is shorted and must be replaced.
- Replace RTD: Install a new Recteq-compatible RTD temperature probe, routing the cable away from hot or sharp surfaces. Secure with cable ties where appropriate.
- Power up: Reconnect to the controller, plug in the grill, and verify that the display shows a reasonable ambient temperature and ER-2 is cleared.
Note: If ER-2 persists with a new RTD, the controller board may have an internal short. Do not attempt board-level repair unless qualified; contact Recteq support.
