Controller display shows ER-7 and grill shuts down or will not maintain temperature; fan may not run.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and allow it to cool completely. The fan area may have sharp edges; wear gloves.
Steps to troubleshoot ER-7:
- Listen for fan operation: During startup (before unplugging), note whether you hear the combustion fan running. A silent fan with ER-7 indicates a likely fan or power issue.
- Access the fan: Remove the side or bottom access panel to locate the combustion fan assembly. Inspect the fan blades for grease buildup, debris, or foreign objects that could block rotation.
- Spin test: With power disconnected, gently spin the fan blade by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. If it is stiff or seized, the motor is likely failed.
- Check wiring: Trace the fan wires back to the controller. Ensure the connector is fully seated and that there are no burned or melted sections of wire.
- Replace fan if needed: If the fan is seized or the motor shows signs of overheating, remove the mounting screws and install a new Recteq-compatible combustion fan assembly. Ensure correct orientation for airflow.
- Re-test: Reassemble panels, plug in the grill, and start a cook cycle. Confirm that the fan runs continuously during ignition and that ER-7 clears.
Note: If a known-good fan does not run and ER-7 persists, the controller's fan output circuit may be defective and the controller should be replaced.
