Possible Causes

Internal controller temperature sensor failure, Firmware glitch causing invalid readings, Electrical noise or interference on sensor lines

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill before removing the controller.

Steps to address ER-8:

  • Power cycle: Unplug the grill for at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and attempt to restart. Sometimes ER-8 can be cleared by a full power reset.
  • Check external RTD first: Ensure the main RTD probe and wiring are intact and properly connected, as a faulty RTD can sometimes be misinterpreted as an internal sensor fault.
  • Inspect controller environment: Make sure the controller housing is not exposed to direct flame, excessive heat, or water intrusion. Look for condensation or corrosion on the controller face and behind the panel.
  • Firmware reset (if supported): Some Recteq controllers allow a factory reset via button sequence (consult your model's manual). Perform a reset to clear any corrupted settings.
  • Replace controller: If ER-8 persists after checking the RTD and performing resets, the internal sensor or logic on the controller is likely defective. Replace the controller with a Recteq-compatible unit.

Warning: Do not attempt to modify or bypass controller safety circuits. Use only OEM or approved replacement controllers.
