Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and allow it to cool. There may be unburned pellets in the firepot after failed ignition attempts.
Steps to resolve IGN error:
- Clean firepot: Remove grates, drip pan, and heat deflector. Vacuum out ash and unburned pellets from the firepot.
- Verify pellet feed: Start a feed test or ignition cycle (with grill cool and reassembled) and confirm that pellets drop into the firepot within the first few minutes.
- Check igniter glow: During ignition, look through the firepot holes for a visible orange glow from the igniter. No glow indicates a failed igniter or power issue.
- Confirm fan operation: Ensure the combustion fan is running during ignition; without airflow, pellets may smolder but not ignite.
- Replace igniter if needed: If pellets feed and the fan runs but there is no igniter glow, test and replace the igniter/hot rod as needed.
- Manual light (temporary): If you must cook before replacing the igniter, you can manually light pellets: place a small handful of pellets in the firepot, add a food-safe fire starter cube, light it, let it burn for several minutes, then start the grill with the igniter disabled (if your model allows). Follow Recteq's manual-light instructions and never use lighter fluid.
Note: Repeated failed ignitions can cause pellet buildup and potential flare-ups. Always clean the firepot between attempts.
