Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: After a flame-out, unplug the grill and allow it to cool before relighting. Unburned pellets may be present in the firepot.
Steps to address intermittent flame-out:
- Clean firepot and burn area: Remove grates and internals, then vacuum ash and debris from the firepot and surrounding area. Do this regularly (every few cooks).
- Check pellet quality: Use only dry, high-quality hardwood pellets. Discard any that are dusty, crumbly, or damp.
- Observe pellet feed: During a test cook, watch the firepot (from a safe distance) to ensure pellets are feeding at regular intervals. Long gaps can cause flame-out.
- Verify fan operation: Confirm that the combustion fan runs continuously during the cook. Weak or intermittent airflow can cause the fire to die.
- Inspect auger motor: If the motor stalls intermittently or makes unusual noises, replace it.
Note: If flame-outs persist after cleaning and verifying components, the controller's feed algorithm or power output may be faulty and the controller may need replacement.
