Possible Causes

Damaged RTD temperature sensor wire, Disconnected RTD plug at control board, Failed RTD temperature probe, Corroded RTD connector at front panel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Royal Gourmet pellet grill from power and allow it to cool completely before opening any panels.

Steps to check and fix:

  • Inspect the RTD probe: Locate the temperature probe inside the cook chamber (usually a metal rod on the side wall). Check for obvious damage, kinks, or broken insulation on the wire leading to the control panel.
  • Check the RTD connection: Remove the control panel mounting screws and gently pull the panel forward. Find the two-wire RTD connector going to the main control board. Make sure it is fully seated and not corroded or burnt.
  • Test continuity: With a multimeter set to resistance (ohms), disconnect the RTD from the board and measure across the two RTD leads. A typical RTD should show a finite resistance (often 100–2000 Ω depending on type). If it reads open (OL) or 0 Ω (short), the probe is faulty.
  • Clean or reseat connectors: If the probe tests good, clean the plug contacts with electrical contact cleaner and firmly reconnect to the control board.
  • Replace the RTD probe if needed: If the probe is open or shorted, remove the mounting screw or nut holding it to the cook chamber, route the new RTD harness the same way as the original, and reconnect to the control board.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the control panel, plug the grill back in, and power on. If Er1 clears and the temperature reads normally, run a low-temperature test burn.
