Control panel displays Er2 and temperature reading is erratic or extremely high/low; grill may shut down.

Safety first: Disconnect power and let the pellet smoker cool completely before inspection.

Steps to diagnose and correct:

• Visual inspection of probe and wire: Locate the RTD probe inside the cook chamber. Look for melted insulation, bare wire touching metal, or signs of grease and moisture intrusion where the wire passes through the wall.
• Check for shorts: With the RTD unplugged from the control board, use a multimeter to check resistance between each RTD lead and the metal body of the grill. Any reading other than OL (open) indicates a short to ground.
• Dry and clean connectors: If there is moisture or grease in the RTD connector, clean it with electrical contact cleaner and allow it to dry fully before reconnecting.
• Secure the harness: Ensure the RTD cable is routed away from hot surfaces and sharp edges. Use high-temperature cable ties to keep it from contacting the firebox or drip tray.
• Replace the RTD probe: If the probe is shorted internally or the insulation is badly damaged, remove the old probe and install a new Royal Gourmet-compatible RTD temperature probe, routing the harness exactly as the original.
• Test operation: Reconnect power, clear the error by cycling power, and verify that the temperature reading is stable at ambient before starting a cook cycle.
