Possible Causes

Insufficient pellet feed at low setting, Excessive airflow from combustion fan, RTD probe reading too high, Poor pellet quality in Royal Gourmet hopper

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Allow the grill to cool before internal inspection.

Steps to improve low-temp performance:

  • Use high-quality pellets: Fill the hopper with dry, food-grade hardwood pellets. Avoid pellets that are dusty or crumbly.
  • Clean fire pot and burn area: Remove ash and clinker buildup from the fire pot to ensure consistent ignition and burn.
  • Check fan operation: Verify the combustion fan is not running at full speed constantly at low settings. If it is, the control board may be misdriving the fan.
  • Inspect RTD placement: Ensure the RTD probe is not directly in the path of incoming cold air or touching metal surfaces that could skew readings.
  • Controller calibration (if available): Some Royal Gourmet models allow temperature offset adjustment. Follow the user manual to calibrate the displayed temperature to match an external thermometer.
