Possible Causes
Disconnected auger motor plug, Failed auger motor winding, Jammed auger causing overload, Faulty auger relay on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and empty the hopper before working on the auger system.
- 1. Confirm auger jam status: Try to rotate the auger shaft by hand (using pliers on the exposed end). If it is locked, clear the jam as described in auger jam procedures (remove motor, pull auger, clean tube).
- 2. Check wiring: Locate the auger motor connector and ensure it is firmly plugged into the harness and control board. Inspect for burned or loose terminals.
- 3. Motor resistance test: With the motor disconnected and grill unplugged, measure resistance across the motor leads. An open circuit or very high resistance indicates a failed motor.
- 4. Voltage test (advanced): During a startup cycle, measure voltage at the auger motor connector. If the board supplies correct voltage but the motor does not turn, replace the motor. If no voltage is present, the control board auger driver is likely faulty.
- 5. Replace auger motor: Remove mounting bolts, slide the motor off the auger shaft, install the new motor aligning the flat on the shaft, and tighten bolts. Reconnect wiring and secure.
