Possible Causes
RTD probe wires shorted together, Melted RTD insulation from direct flame, Moisture inside RTD connector, RTD harness pinched between body panels
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and let the Tepro pellet smoker cool fully before inspection.
- 1. Inspect the probe and cable: Look at the RTD probe inside the cook chamber. If the cable is touching the fire pot, burn pot shield, or drip tray, it may have melted and shorted. Reroute away from hot surfaces and replace if insulation is burned.
- 2. Check for moisture: At the rear or underside where the RTD harness plugs into the main wiring, disconnect the plug and check for water, grease, or condensation. Dry thoroughly and spray with electrical contact cleaner if available.
- 3. Look for pinched points: Remove side/rear panels and trace the RTD harness. If it is crushed between sheet metal or frame members, free it and inspect for exposed conductors touching each other or the chassis. Repair or replace as needed.
- 4. Multimeter test: With the RTD unplugged from the control board, measure resistance between each RTD lead and the metal probe body or grill chassis. Any reading close to 0 Ω indicates a short. Also measure between the two leads; if resistance is extremely low (near 0 Ω) compared to spec, the probe is shorted internally.
- 5. Replace the RTD assembly: Remove the mounting screw(s), pull the old probe and harness, route the new harness along the original path, and secure with high‑temp clips or ties. Plug into the control board firmly.
- 6. Reset and test: Reassemble, plug in, and power on. The Er2 code should clear and temperature readings should stabilize.
