Er9 appears and grill will not start, fan and auger remain off

Safety first: Unplug the grill before accessing switches or wiring.

• 1. Identify lid switch: On models equipped with a lid safety switch, locate it near the lid hinge or front lip. It may be a small plunger switch or a magnetic reed sensor.
• 2. Check alignment: Close the lid and verify that the lid tab or magnet lines up directly with the switch. Adjust the bracket or magnet position so the switch is fully actuated when the lid is closed.
• 3. Inspect wiring: Follow the switch wires to the main harness. Ensure the connector is fully seated at the control board and that no wires are cut or pinched.
• 4. Bypass test (for diagnosis only): With the grill unplugged, temporarily join the two switch wires together using an insulated jumper to simulate a closed switch. Plug in and power on. If Er9 clears and the grill starts, the switch is faulty and should be replaced. Remove the jumper after testing and do not operate permanently bypassed, as this defeats a safety feature.
• 5. Replace lid switch: Remove mounting screws, disconnect the old switch, and install the new one in the same position. Reconnect wiring and secure it away from hot areas.
• 6. Confirm operation: Plug in, close the lid, and start the grill. Ensure Er9 does not reappear and that opening the lid behaves as specified in the manual.
