Possible Causes
RTD probe exposed to direct flame, Shorted RTD leads at connector, Control board ADC failure, Probe wiring touching hot metal surface
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and allow it to cool completely.
- 1. Inspect probe placement: Ensure the RTD probe is not directly above the fire pot or touching the drip tray or grill grates. It should be mounted on the side wall, clear of direct flame.
- 2. Check for melted insulation: Follow the RTD cable from the probe to the exit point. If the insulation is melted where it contacts hot metal, the conductors may be shorted. Replace the probe assembly if damage is found.
- 3. Examine connector: At the control board, unplug the RTD connector and inspect for bent pins or strands of wire bridging the contacts. Clean and reseat.
- 4. Substitute known‑good probe (if available): Temporarily connect a replacement RTD to the board and leave it outside the grill at room temperature. Power on; if the reading is now normal, the original probe is defective.
- 5. Control board check: If a good probe still reads extremely high, the analog input on the control board may be faulty. Replace the control board as a unit.
