Possible Causes
Weak or partially failed hot rod igniter, Excess ash insulating pellets from igniter, Combustion fan not running at full speed, Pellets feeding too slowly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the grill off, unplug it, and allow it to cool. Confirm there are no active embers before working in the fire pot.
- 1. Deep clean fire pot: Remove grates and drip tray. Vacuum all ash from the fire pot and ensure the igniter opening is clear.
- 2. Check igniter glow: With the fire pot empty, reassemble enough to run safely. Plug in, start the grill, and after 2–4 minutes look for a bright red glow from the igniter. If it is dim or intermittent, replace the igniter.
- 3. Confirm fan operation: Listen for the combustion fan during startup. Weak airflow can prevent ignition. Clean the fan and housing; replace the fan motor if it does not reach full speed.
- 4. Verify pellet feed: Ensure pellets drop into the fire pot within the first few minutes of startup. If feed is very slow, check for partial auger jams or low hopper level.
- 5. Manual light test: As a diagnostic, you can light a small handful of pellets in the fire pot with a long match or lighter (with the grill unplugged, then plug in after flame is established). If the grill runs normally after manual lighting, the igniter is the primary suspect.
