Possible Causes
Damaged RTD temperature probe lead, Disconnected RTD plug at main control board, Broken RTD sensor element, Corroded RTD connector at grill body pass-through
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the grill OFF, unplug it from the outlet, and allow it to cool completely before working near the firepot or wiring.
- Inspect the RTD probe: Locate the RTD temperature probe inside the cook chamber (usually a small metal rod on the left or rear wall). Check for obvious damage, kinks, or burn-through of the wire sheath.
- Check the RTD wiring harness: Follow the RTD cable from the probe through the side wall grommet to the underside of the grill where it connects to the main control board. Ensure the plug is fully seated and not corroded or melted.
- Clean and reseat connectors: Disconnect the RTD plug from the control board, inspect for corrosion or bent pins, clean gently with electrical contact cleaner, and reconnect firmly.
- Test continuity (advanced): With a multimeter set to resistance (ohms), measure across the RTD leads. An open circuit (infinite resistance) indicates a failed probe that must be replaced.
- Replace the RTD probe if faulty: Remove the mounting screw(s) holding the RTD to the cook chamber, pull the wire through the grommet, and install a new Timberwolf RTD Temperature Probe Assembly, routing the wire away from hot surfaces and moving parts.
- Power up and test: Plug the grill back in, clear the error by cycling power, and start an ignition cycle to confirm normal operation.
