Possible Causes
Failed combustion fan motor, Loose fan motor connector at control board, Obstructed fan wheel preventing startup, Burned fan winding or shorted motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill. Allow it to cool completely before accessing the fan housing.
- Locate the combustion fan: On Timberwolf pellet grills, the combustion blower is typically mounted on the side of the firebox with a round housing and metal impeller.
- Check for obstructions: Remove the fan intake cover and inspect for ash, debris, or insect nests blocking the impeller. Clean thoroughly with a brush and vacuum.
- Inspect wiring and connector: Follow the fan motor wires back to the control board. Ensure the plug is fully seated and wires are not cut or melted.
- Spin test: Gently spin the fan impeller by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. Binding or stiffness indicates bearing failure.
- Electrical test: With the motor disconnected, measure resistance across the motor leads. An open or very low resistance suggests a failed motor.
- Replace the combustion fan motor: Remove mounting screws, detach the old Timberwolf Combustion Fan Assembly, transfer any gaskets, and install the new unit, ensuring a tight seal to the firebox.
- Reassemble and test: Reconnect wiring, restore power, and start the grill. Confirm that the fan starts immediately during ignition and that Er5 is cleared.
