Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill. Ensure the firepot is cool and free of burning pellets before working near the igniter.

• Access the firepot: Remove cooking grates, drip tray, and heat diffuser to expose the firepot. The hot rod igniter is typically mounted through the side of the firepot.
• Inspect igniter wiring: From underneath or behind the grill, locate the Timberwolf Hot Rod Igniter wires and follow them to the control board. Check for cuts, burns, or loose connectors.
• Check for glow: With the grill reassembled enough for safe operation, plug it in and start an ignition cycle while observing the igniter through the firepot holes. If it does not glow red within a few minutes and Er8 appears, proceed with testing.
• Test igniter resistance: Unplug the grill, disconnect the igniter leads, and measure resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed igniter.
• Replace the hot rod igniter: Remove the retaining screw or bracket holding the igniter in place, slide it out of the firepot, and install a new Timberwolf Hot Rod Igniter, ensuring the tip sits correctly in the firepot for proper ignition.
• Check board fuse (if present): Some boards include a dedicated igniter fuse. Inspect and replace with the same rating if blown.
• Reassemble and test: Reinstall internal components, plug in the grill, and run a startup cycle to confirm reliable ignition and that Er8 is cleared.
