Possible Causes
RTD probe drifted out of calibration, Control board temperature calibration fault, Poor RTD mounting contact with cook chamber wall, Excessive soot buildup on RTD probe
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill before cleaning or adjusting the RTD probe.
- Clean the RTD probe: Gently scrub the RTD sensor rod inside the cook chamber with a non-abrasive pad to remove soot and grease. Do not bend the probe.
- Check probe mounting: Ensure the RTD base is firmly attached to the cook chamber wall and not loose or pulled away, which can cause inaccurate readings.
- Compare with a reference thermometer: Place a reliable oven thermometer or digital probe near the RTD and run the grill at a known setpoint. Compare readings to determine if the RTD or control board is inaccurate.
- Use control calibration (if available): Some Timberwolf controllers allow temperature offset adjustment. Follow the user manual to enter calibration mode and adjust the offset to match your reference thermometer.
- Replace RTD or control board if needed: If calibration cannot correct the error or readings are unstable, replace the Timberwolf RTD Temperature Probe Assembly. If the issue persists, the Timberwolf Digital Control Board may require replacement.
