Possible Causes
Combustion fan not reaching speed, Convection fan (if separate) stalled, Fan tachometer feedback wire disconnected, Fan motor bearings seized
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the grill and allow it to cool before accessing any fan assemblies.
- Identify fan type: Some Timberwolf models use a single combustion fan; others have separate combustion and convection fans. Refer to your model’s layout.
- Inspect fan blades: Remove fan guards and check for grease, ash, or debris buildup on the impeller. Clean thoroughly to reduce drag.
- Check wiring and tach lead: Locate the fan connector at the control board, including any third wire used for speed feedback. Ensure all pins are seated and wires are intact.
- Spin test: Rotate the fan by hand. Any grinding, stiffness, or wobble indicates bearing failure and the need for a new Timberwolf Fan Motor Assembly.
- Replace faulty fan: Remove mounting screws, disconnect wiring, and install the replacement fan, ensuring correct orientation for airflow.
- Test operation: Reassemble, plug in, and start the grill. Confirm that the fan starts promptly and that FAN ERR does not reappear.
