Possible Causes
Grease fire in cook chamber, Operating with lid open at high setpoint, Faulty RTD reading too high, High-limit switch tripping prematurely
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If flames are visible, keep the lid closed, turn OFF and unplug the grill, and allow the fire to burn out. Use a fire extinguisher if necessary; never use water on a grease fire.
- After cooling, inspect for damage: Check wiring, RTD probe, and high-limit switch for heat damage.
- Clean grease and debris: Thoroughly clean the drip tray, grease channel, and interior surfaces to remove flammable buildup.
- Verify sensor accuracy: Compare displayed temperature with a reference thermometer. If readings are significantly higher, inspect and replace the Timberwolf RTD Temperature Probe Assembly as needed.
- Check high-limit switch: Test the Timberwolf High-Limit Temperature Switch for proper operation. Replace if it trips at normal cooking temperatures.
- Operate with lid closed: Avoid running at maximum temperature with the lid open, which can confuse airflow and temperature sensing.
