Possible Causes
Hot rod igniter not heating, Insufficient pellet feed during startup, Combustion fan not providing enough air, Excessive ash or debris in firepot
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill. Ensure there are no active flames before working in the firepot area.
- Clean the firepot: Remove internal components and vacuum out ash and debris. Make sure all air holes are clear.
- Verify pellet feed: Start a prime cycle and confirm that pellets are dropping into the firepot at a steady rate. If not, inspect the auger and hopper for jams.
- Check igniter operation: During startup (with safe access and caution), observe whether the Timberwolf Hot Rod Igniter glows red. If it does not, test and replace the igniter as needed.
- Confirm fan airflow: Ensure the combustion fan starts immediately during ignition and that air can be felt at the firepot. Clean the fan intake and housing if airflow is weak.
- Manual light (temporary workaround): If the igniter has failed but you must cook, you can manually light pellets by placing a small amount of starter gel in the firepot, adding a handful of pellets, and lighting with a long match. Keep the lid open until the flame is established, then close and monitor closely. Replace the igniter as soon as possible.
