Possible Causes
Moisture inside RTD probe, RTD wires shorted together, Damaged RTD insulation, RTD connector pins bent and touching
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before handling wiring or the controller.
- 1. Inspect RTD wiring:
- Trace the RTD cable from the probe to the controller.
- Look for spots where the insulation is rubbed through or melted, especially where it passes through metal.
- 2. Check connector:
- Unplug the RTD from the controller.
- Inspect the connector for bent pins or debris causing a short.
- Straighten pins gently if needed.
- 3. Test RTD resistance:
- Measure resistance across the RTD leads at room temperature.
- A reading near 0 ohms indicates a shorted probe; replace it.
- 4. Dry out moisture (temporary measure):
- If the grill was stored in heavy rain and the RTD looks wet, allow it to dry for 24 hours in a warm, dry area.
- If Er2 persists, replace the RTD.
- 5. Replace RTD:
- Install a new OEM RTD probe and route the cable to avoid pinch points and hot surfaces.
