Possible Causes

Moisture inside RTD probe, RTD wires shorted together, Damaged RTD insulation, RTD connector pins bent and touching

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before handling wiring or the controller.

  • 1. Inspect RTD wiring:
    • Trace the RTD cable from the probe to the controller.
    • Look for spots where the insulation is rubbed through or melted, especially where it passes through metal.
  • 2. Check connector:
    • Unplug the RTD from the controller.
    • Inspect the connector for bent pins or debris causing a short.
    • Straighten pins gently if needed.
  • 3. Test RTD resistance:
    • Measure resistance across the RTD leads at room temperature.
    • A reading near 0 ohms indicates a shorted probe; replace it.
  • 4. Dry out moisture (temporary measure):
    • If the grill was stored in heavy rain and the RTD looks wet, allow it to dry for 24 hours in a warm, dry area.
    • If Er2 persists, replace the RTD.
  • 5. Replace RTD:
    • Install a new OEM RTD probe and route the cable to avoid pinch points and hot surfaces.
