Controller displays “ERR” and grill will not start or respond to temperature changes.

Safety first: Unplug the grill from power before removing any panels. Allow the grill to cool completely.

• 1. Power cycle the grill: Turn the power switch OFF, unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in and turn ON. Check if the ERR clears.
• 2. Inspect RTD temperature probe:
  • Locate the RTD probe inside the cook chamber (small metal rod on the side wall) and follow its wire to the controller.
  • Check for cuts, kinks, or burned insulation on the RTD wire.
  • At the controller, gently unplug and re-seat the RTD connector several times to clean the contacts.
• 3. Check RTD resistance (if you have a multimeter):
  • Disconnect the RTD from the controller.
  • Measure resistance across the two RTD leads at room temperature (~70°F / 21°C). A typical Traeger RTD should read roughly 1000–2000 ohms (consult your model’s spec).
  • If the reading is open (OL), shorted (0 ohms), or far outside spec, replace the RTD temperature probe.
• 4. Inspect controller and harness:
  • Remove the controller mounting screws and gently pull the controller out.
  • Check all harness plugs for corrosion, loose pins, or heat damage.
  • Firmly re-seat each connector one at a time.
• 5. Replace failed component:
  • If a new RTD does not clear the ERR, the main control board is likely faulty and should be replaced as a complete controller assembly.
