Possible Causes

Power surge damage to controller, Blown internal controller component, Shorted accessory connected to controller, Damaged wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill before inspection. Do not work on the controller while it is connected to mains power.

  • 1. Disconnect accessories:
    • Unplug any meat probes, WiFIRE antenna modules, or accessory harnesses from the controller.
    • Plug the grill back in and power ON. If ERR disappears, reconnect accessories one at a time to find the faulty item.
  • 2. Visual inspection of controller:
    • Remove the controller from the hopper housing.
    • Look for burn marks, bulging capacitors, or melted areas on the circuit board.
    • If visible damage is present, the controller must be replaced.
  • 3. Check wiring harness:
    • Inspect the main harness from controller to auger motor, induction fan, and hot rod.
    • Look for pinched, melted, or chewed wires that could be shorting.
    • Repair or replace damaged harness sections.
  • 4. Replace controller:
    • If ERR persists with all loads disconnected and wiring intact, install a new OEM Traeger controller compatible with your model.
    • Label each connector before removal to ensure correct reinstallation.
