Possible Causes

Empty hopper, Pellet bridging in hopper, Jammed auger, Failed auger motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the grill OFF and unplug it before reaching into the hopper or auger area.

  • 1. Check hopper level:
    • Fill the hopper at least halfway with dry, high-quality Traeger pellets.
    • Stir pellets by hand to break up any bridging or clumping.
  • 2. Confirm auger feed:
    • Remove grates, drip tray, and heat baffle to view the firepot.
    • Turn the grill ON and start ignition (lid open).
    • Watch for pellets dropping into the firepot within a few minutes.
  • 3. If no pellets feed:
    • Listen for auger motor operation (a slow, intermittent grinding sound).
    • If silent, test the auger motor for power at its connector; replace the auger motor if it is not turning under power.
    • If the motor runs but pellets do not move, the auger is likely jammed and must be cleared.
  • 4. Clear auger jam (see auger jam fault below for full steps):
    • Empty hopper, remove auger motor, and pull auger shaft to clear compacted pellets or foreign objects.
