Possible Causes

Failed hot rod igniter, Wet or poor-quality pellets, Excessive ash buildup in firepot, Weak airflow from induction fan

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the grill OFF, unplug it, and allow it to cool before cleaning or testing components.

  • 1. Clean firepot:
    • Remove grates, drip tray, and heat baffle.
    • Vacuum all ash and unburned pellets from the firepot and barrel.
  • 2. Use fresh pellets:
    • Empty the hopper if pellets are old or damp.
    • Refill with fresh, dry Traeger hardwood pellets.
  • 3. Verify fan operation:
    • Start the grill and confirm the induction fan runs and you feel airflow into the firepot.
  • 4. Test hot rod:
    • During startup, carefully feel near the firepot (without touching metal) for heat from the igniter.
    • If no heat, test the hot rod resistance and replace if open.
  • 5. Temporary manual light (for testing only):
    • With the grill OFF and cool, place a small handful of pellets in the firepot.
    • Light them with a long match or lighter, allow them to burn for a minute, then start the grill with the lid open.
    • If the grill runs once manually lit, the hot rod is almost certainly bad and should be replaced.
