How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill. Allow it to cool completely. Do not place hands near the auger while power is connected.
Steps to troubleshoot ERR AUGER:
- 1. Empty the hopper: Scoop out pellets from the hopper into a clean container. Check for signs of moisture or clumping.
- 2. Inspect auger movement: With the hopper mostly empty, plug in the grill and start it. Look down into the hopper (keep hands clear). If the auger does not turn at all and ERR AUGER appears, shut the unit off.
- 3. Check for jams: Unplug the grill. Remove the auger motor cover at the rear or underside of the hopper. Disconnect the auger motor from the auger shaft (remove set screw or pin). Try to manually rotate the auger shaft with pliers. If it is seized, you have a pellet jam.
- 4. Clear the jam: Remove the auger assembly as per the service manual (typically by removing retaining screws and sliding the auger out of the tube). Scrape out compacted pellets and sawdust. Lightly sand any rust inside the auger tube and vacuum debris.
- 5. Test the auger motor: With the auger shaft disconnected and grill plugged in, start the unit and observe the motor. If it does not turn or only hums, replace the auger motor.
- 6. Reassemble: Reinstall the auger, reconnect the motor, secure all fasteners, and refill the hopper with fresh, dry pellets. Run a feed-priming cycle if your Twin Eagles model supports it.
If ERR AUGER persists after clearing jams and replacing the motor, the control board or wiring harness may require professional diagnosis.
