Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the grill OFF, unplug it from power, and allow it to cool completely before working inside the firebox. Pellets and metal parts can remain hot for 30+ minutes.
Steps to troubleshoot ERR IGN:
- 1. Verify fuel and fire pot condition: Open the lid and remove the cooking grates and heat diffuser. Inspect the fire pot. Empty any excess ash or unburned pellets. The hot surface igniter tip must be visible in the fire pot opening.
- 2. Check igniter wiring: With power disconnected, access the igniter from beneath or behind the firebox (location varies by Twin Eagles pellet model). Confirm the igniter leads are firmly plugged into the control board harness and that no insulation is burned or cut.
- 3. Test igniter operation: Restore power, start the grill with the lid open, and watch the igniter area for 3–5 minutes (do not touch). You should see a dull red/orange glow at the igniter tip. If there is no glow and the code returns, the igniter is likely failed.
- 4. Check for airflow issues: Ensure the combustion fan is running during startup. Poor airflow can prevent ignition even with a working igniter. Clean any heavy ash buildup around the fire pot and air inlets.
- 5. Replace the igniter if needed: Disconnect power, remove the mounting screw(s) holding the hot surface igniter in place, slide it out, and install the new Twin Eagles-compatible hot surface igniter. Route wires away from direct flame and high heat, then reconnect to the control board.
If ERR IGN persists after replacing the igniter and cleaning the fire pot, the issue may be with the control board or power supply and should be evaluated by a qualified technician.
