Possible Causes
Pellet bridging in hopper, Partial auger jam, Weak combustion fan, Excessive ash buildup in fire pot
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF and unplug the grill. Allow it to cool before cleaning or reaching into the hopper or fire pot.
Steps to address intermittent flame-out:
- 1. Stir and refill hopper: Break up any pellet bridges by stirring pellets with a clean, dry tool. Keep the hopper at least half full.
- 2. Clean fire pot: Remove grates and diffuser, vacuum ash from the fire pot and burn area. Do this regularly to maintain airflow.
- 3. Inspect auger feed: Observe pellet drop into the fire pot during a test run. If feed is irregular, inspect the auger for partial jams and clear as needed.
- 4. Check combustion fan: Ensure the fan runs steadily during the cook. Clean intake and exhaust vents to improve airflow.
If flame-outs continue, the auger motor or control board timing may be faulty and should be evaluated by a technician.
