Possible Causes

Jammed auger with swollen pellets, Failed auger motor, Stripped auger motor gearbox, Loose auger motor connector or damaged wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the grill and let it cool. Wear cut-resistant gloves when handling the auger flighting.

  • Check pellet condition: Open the hopper and inspect pellets. If they are swollen, crumbly, or damp, empty the hopper and discard. Moist pellets can swell and jam the auger.
  • Test auger operation: With the hopper mostly empty, plug the grill back in and start it. Look down into the hopper to see if the auger is turning. If E2 appears and the auger does not move, proceed to mechanical checks.
  • Clear auger jam: Unplug the grill. Remove the hopper guard and access panel to reach the auger motor. Remove the motor mounting bolts and slide the motor off the auger shaft. Try to manually rotate the auger with pliers. If it is stuck, remove the auger from the tube (often by removing a set screw and pulling it out from the fire pot side) and clear compacted pellets or debris. Clean the auger tube thoroughly.
  • Inspect auger motor and gearbox: Check for stripped gears (motor spins freely without turning the shaft) or burnt smell. If the shaft does not turn under power or the gearbox is noisy/grinding, replace the auger motor assembly.
  • Check wiring: Confirm the auger motor connector is fully seated on the control board and that no wires are cut or melted near the firebox.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the auger, secure the motor, refill with fresh, dry pellets, and run a startup cycle to confirm normal feeding.
